In December, 250 community care apartments in Bedok will be on sale to help Singaporeans live independently.

The project will increase the supply of community care apartments and roll out up to 30 such apartments in various locations across Singapore by 2030, if the care model is effective and replicable, said the Ministry of National Development (MND), Ministry of Health (MOH) and Housing and Development Board (HDB) in a joint statement on Thursday (November 30).
The 250 community care apartments are part of the 1,234 apartments at the Chai Chee Green Build-To-Order (BTO) project. The project will have three-room, four-room and five-room apartments, “to promote intergenerational bonding, community integration and interaction”.
The waiting time to get an apartment is between three years and three months and three years and seven months.
Each community care apartment is about 32 square meters and has senior-friendly features, such as grab bars, wheelchair-accessible bathrooms with anti-slip floors and wide front doors.
Geylang Condo have an open layout, where spaces can be customized and separated by sliding partitions. They also have built-in wardrobes, storage cabinets and finished kitchens, “to allow seniors to move in quickly without much renovation”.
Residents of these apartments will sign up for a basic service package, which includes essential services such as 24-hour emergency monitoring and basic health checks. They can also choose additional services for a fee, such as day care, laundry, and meals.

The basic service package also gives residents access to care services, health and social activities, and nearby nursing homes when needed.
The total cost of the unit includes fixed prices and basic service package prices. The fixed cost is paid upfront, while the basic service package has two payment options: pay between S$175 and S$185 per month with a one-year security deposit or pay between S$6,300 and S$7,000 every three years for the basic package.
Geylang Property also has nearby social and community amenities, such as cafeterias and resident network centers. It is close to three MRT stations – Bedok North, Bedok and Kembangan.
To apply for a community care apartment, the applicant and their spouse must be at least 65 years old. They can choose leases from 15 years to 35 years, in five-year increments, until they are at least 95 years old.

The exhibit is open from Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except weekends and holidays. It has 3D models of community care apartments and residences, general spatial models and showroom of apartment products. Visitors can also learn more about service packages and eligibility conditions.
